Going Solo: Business Basics @ Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC)
Aug 25 @ 6:00 pm – 8:15 pm

Have you ever thought about starting your own business? Do you have an idea that you think could be profitable?   Do you want to learn more about business and entrepreneurship? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, we invite you to join “Going Solo: Creating a Successful Business” program with the University of WI – Extension, Fond du Lac County. Enrolling in Going Solo can be a great first step toward a career as an independent business owner or entrepreneur.

Going Solo is for youth (12 years and older) and adults who would like to increase their business and entrepreneurial knowledge. Individuals from any professional background and with any level of prior knowledge on the subject matter are welcome to join this series of five weekly sessions.

Sessions will be held on Tuesdays from August 25th – September 22nd at the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation office located at 116 N. Main St., Fond du Lac, WI (next to Taco John’s) from 6:00-8:15pm. There is a $10 fee to enroll in the program (need based fee waiver available). Pre-registration is required and taken on a first come, first served basis up to the maximum of 20 participants. A certificate of completion will be awarded to all participants finishing the series at the last session on Tuesday, September 22nd.

The centerpiece of the program is an interactive simulation in which participants practice making real business decisions as owners of their own jewelry business. In small groups, participants will decide about sales price, marketing, target customers, insurance, and loans. All choices have consequences mirroring real market responses. Participants will apply their knowledge and make difficult business decisions in a risk-free setting.

Participants of Going Solo will also meet the business professionals of IGNITE! Business Success (www.IGNITEFondduLacCounty.com) who will introduce the no-cost, public services they offer area entrepreneurs. These local experts will provide ongoing start-up assistance after the workshop series ends.

Come, join us and learn valuable skills that could help you become a part of the fabric of our vibrant local economy.

To enroll, please contact Gloria Kelroy at Fond du Lac County UW-Extension: 920/929-3173. Gloria.Kelroy@ces.uwex.edu. Requests for interpretation in Spanish or Hmong, materials in alternate formats, or other reasonable accommodations to access this program should be made as early as possible preceding the class.
